    DETONATION FLAME ARRESTER
    Series No. 25000 & 26000

The Protectoseal Series Nos. 25000 & 26000 Detonation Flame Arresters are specifically designed to withstand and arrest the high velocity and high pressure flame fronts that may develop in long or complex piping runs such as those encountered in vapor recovery or manifolded tank systems. The arresters provide positive protection against flame transmission through piping systems handling chemical vapor mixtures as referenced in the National Electric Code (NEC) Article 500:

Series No. 25000 - Suitable for use with Group D chemical vapors, generally equivalent to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Group IIA.
Series No. 26000 - Suitable for use with Groups C & D chemical vapors, generally equivalent to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Group IIA and IIB.

When properly specified and installed, the Series 25000 and 26000 Detonation Arresters are designed to stop unconfined deflagrations, low speed, low pressure confined deflagrations, high speed, high pressure confined deflagrations and both stable and overdriven detonations. A stable detonation is defined as "the movement of a flame through a gas or vapor at a velocity equal to the speed of sound in the burnt vapor". An overdriven detonation is characterized by flame speeds and pressures greater than those of a stable detonation. The proven ability to withstand this variety of flame fronts is a key characteristic of a detonation flame arrester. The arresters are bidirectional, able to stop a flame approaching from either direction in the piping system.

The Series 25000 & 26000 utilize wound crimped 316 Stainless Steel foil strips to form a heat transfer matrix of uniform triangular cells within the circular element. The size and shape of the openings in the crimped metal element and the length of passage through these openings have been designed to insure the ability of the device to quench multiple detonations and deflagrations. The crimped metal arrester design allows for flexibility in application. The ability to control the size of the openings is the key to arresting a variety of flame fronts. The one-piece, unitized arrester elements are easily removable and interchangeable. This permits a clean spare arrester to be inserted for positive protection at all times. All standard units flanged to mate with 150# RF ANSI flange connections.

Protectoseal Detonation Flame Arresters have been thoroughly tested and certified as being effective by the most respected independent laboratories and approval agencies in the world. Underwriters' Laboratories (UL), Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada (ULC), Factory Mutual Research (FM) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) have all granted approvals and acceptances to Protectoseal detonation arresters.
