SERIES NO. 53300, EMERGENCY PRESSURE
MANHOLE COVER VENT
Installation and Maintenance
INSTALLATION
If any questions arise concerning the proper installation of vents, please contact Protectoseal or one of our Authorized Representatives.
CAUTION:
When installing any Protectoseal venting device, the legal, corporate and advisory safety regulations and procedures appropriate for the specific installation site must be fully understood and followed.
| Note 1: |
|
The Series No. 53300 Vent is shipped as two items; the base and the cover assembly.
|
| Note 2: |
|
Depending on the set point of the vent, pressure loading weights may also be shipped separately to avoid damage to the unit. The weights should be inspected, properly identified and set aside for later installation. Weights will be stamped with a serial number matching the number on the vent and a statement as to the contribution that each weight provides to the total pressure or vacuum setting.
|
PROCEDURE:
- Check carefully to insure that no packing or protective materials remain on or inside the vent base or the cover assembly.
- Mount the vent to the appropriate tank flange using gaskets compatible with service conditions. For best performance, the vent should be mounted level so that the seating surfaces are no more than 1° off horizontal.
- If a setting weight has been shipped separately, secure it to the top of the cover assembly by positioning it beneath the nut and washer that include the copper retaining cable in the center of the cover. Tighten all fasteners securely.
- Install the cover assembly on the base. Note: the cover assembly should be free to move up and down in the base. The webs on the bottom of the cover insure proper guiding and positioning of the cover on the seating surface. Verify that the sealing diaphragm of the cover is positioned on the machined seat of the base.
- Secure the loose end of the retaining cable to the bracket on the side of the base, using the fasteners that have been provided. Note: When the vent relieves tank pressure, the cover assembly will lift up and away from the base. The cover will be retained by the cable. After venting, the cover must be manually repositioned on the base.
MAINTENANCE
If any questions arise concerning the proper maintenance of vents, please contact Protectoseal or one of our Authorized Representatives.
CAUTION:
When maintaining any Protectoseal venting device, the legal, corporate and advisory safety regulations and procedures appropriate for the specific installation site must be fully understood and followed.
PROCEDURE:
- Lift the cover assembly from the base.
- Remove any loose dirt or foreign material from the base and from the cover assembly.
- Inspect and clean the machined seating surface of the base with a suitable cleaning fluid. Seats should be free of nicks, mars or accumulations of foreign material. Caution: Do not use a file or other sharp tool to clean seating surface.
- Inspect the cover assembly. If pallet or weatherhood are deteriorated or bent, they must be replaced. Inspect the diaphragm material in the pallet assembly. The diaphragm must be clean, flat and smooth. If the diaphragm material is deteriorated, it must be replaced. The diaphragm can be replaced by loosening the threaded fastener that secures the web assembly to the bottom of the cover. The webs can be removed, exposing the diaphragm for replacement. Once the new diaphragm is in place, reassemble the webs and tighten all fasteners securely.
- Inspect the retaining cable. If it is corroded or abraded, it should be replaced. Verify that the cable is securely fastened to the base.
- Reinstall the cover on the base assembly. Note: the cover assembly should be free to move up and down in the base. The webs on the bottom of the cover insure proper guiding and positioning of the cover on the seating surface. Verify that the sealing diaphragm of the cover is positioned on the machined seat of the base.
