SAFETY DRUM VENTS / FILL UNITS
Flammable liquids give off vapors which build up excessive pressures in closed drums and can cause explosions and fire when exposed to heat. For this reason, safety drum vents and /or fill units are installed in the drum bug openings to automatically relieve excessive pressure. They also provide vacuum relief to facilitate withdrawal of liquids. The vents feature perforated-metal flash arresters to prevent the propagation of outside sources of ignition into the drums.
No. 522 Drum Vent - Safely vent 2" side bung opening of 30 and 55 gallon
drums. Provides automatic pressure relief (opening between 5 and 8 psi) and
manual vacuum relief. Flame Arrester prevents propagation of fire through vent
passage.
No. 525 Drum Vent - 3/4" Drum Vent provides continuous, safe venting when
a 2" bung opening is not available. Perforated-metal flash arrester prevents
flashback through vent passage.
No. 526, Drum Vent Adapter - Provides elbow mount for No. 522 Drum Vent. Mounts
in 3/4" opening.
No. 5522 Drum Vent - Suited for horizontal drums with 2" bung opening
at end. Automatic pressure relief at approximately 5 psi. Manual vacuum relief.
Fusible emergency relief plug melts at 135° F. (57° C.) venting pressure
and preventing drum rupture in case of fire. Perforated metal flash arrester
prevents accidental ignition of vapor within drum.
No. 5000 Drum Vent / Fill Unit - Mounts into the 2" bung opening. Provides
automatic vacuum relief at approximately 2" WC facilitating liquid flow
during dispensing, and the automatic pressure relief valve opens at 5 to 6 psig.
Removable cap assembly permits the perforated-metal flash arrester to remain
threaded in for safety during filling operations.
No. 5505 Drum Funnel / Fill Unit - 9 1/2" diameter copper funnel temporarily
replaces 2" drum vent or original bung cap to provide an economical method
for emptying waste liquids into drums. Funnel is not designed to confine vapors
within the drum and should be removed from the drum after completing the pouring
operation and replaced with a safety drum vent.
